Go Mingle!

I just spent a weekend at a surprise 40th birthday party for one of my closest friends. It was epic! She had no idea that her hubby, best friend, and siblings had conspired to bring some of her favourite people together from around the country. She felt so celebrated and loved!

It was a bit like a wedding. We all showed up. We all celebrated her, but we only had time to briefly connect before she was whisked away to chat with another friend or family member excited to love on her. Don’t get me wrong—it was 100% worth the time and money to be there. But the highlight of the event for me, an attendee, was really in mingling with the other people at the event.

I reconnected with friends I hadn’t seen in years. It was so life-giving! I picked up where I left off with multiple people - like no time had passed at all - even though we had more than 10yrs of living to catch up on. I also built connections with people I knew about but hadn’t met in person.

Here’s the thing, it was just a party to celebrate someone I loved—filled with other people I loved. But it felt so much bigger than that. I felt energized, encouraged, and ready to conquer the world after just four hours of mingling with people who wanted to connect, communicate, see, and be seen.

All of those connections felt like breathing life into areas of my life I didn’t know needed it. I found myself excited to build my business again; belief in myself sky-rocketed; desire to invest in the lives of others felt fresh and invigorating; dreaming about my future suddenly felt more possible.

All of this - just from being around the right kind of people.

Why am I telling you this? Because sometimes we just need to mingle. Not with random people we meet on the street (although that can be amazing!) but with people whose time, energy, focus, and intentionality help us feel seen and known. Mingling with these people is like infusing ourselves with life blood. We boost our ability to exist, to experience joy, to dream big and put aside our fears with hopeful expectation.

So, go mingle! Spend time with those people who energise and recharge you. Reach out and connect - knowing that it can change your life in ways you might not imagine.

Journey Prompt:

  • Make a list of three people who feed into your life in a way that energises you.

  • Make a list of three people whose lives you feed into in a way that energises them.

  • Reach out and connect with one person from each list this week.

    • How do you feel after those connections?

    • How did your conversations energise and encourage you?
